Wireless wireless wireless

Is this the new trend?

For a couple of years now the Buzz word within the enterprises has been Cloud. So much that old technology has been renamed to cloud services just to enable continues sale. For a long time Cloud was so confusing that it was almost impossible to talk about it without starting an argument. Cloud has now more or less landed into a more mainstrean collection portfolio of services that customers can pick and choose from. The new Buzz word, if you ask me for the following few years that isn't even a word is BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). The trend of employees starting to take control over technology strategies instead of IT. New devices and technologies made available for the public create a demand for flexibility within the company Infrastructure. But more on BYOD later.

For personal use I think the new trend will be Wireless. We see more and more Wireless technology implemented into devices which never before has been interactive like TV's. Things like DLNA, Microsofts Smartglass, NFC and offcourse the endless ways of socially use your smartphones positioning system.

Nokia

Nokia started this year by announcing that their new Lumia series would support wireless charging which is a really fantastic feature. Only Fantasy can put an end to what kind of devices you would be able to include this charging method into. They have already together with JBL created a range of speakers with wireless charging capability. Not only do I really hope that Nokia will do a comeback but I really feel that it is essential to have more innovative players on that market.

Netgear

There is also a new Wireless network standard approved to replace it's predecessor 802.11n. It's called 802.11ac and have the difference to send and receive on the dual-band which allows it so have 2 open channels of streams at the same time.  That together with the 5Ghz band you can get speeds up to 1.3 Gbit/s which is actually the first time that wireless can provide higher speeds then threadbound LAN technology. Netgear was first out with a series of products and with a Router called R6300 which is both nice looking and seem to be able to provide quite a throughput.

Intel

I read and saw a demonstration of WiGig which is a New standard undergoing IEEE investigation for final approval which will be the successor of 802.11ac and will support tri-band and also add the 60Ghz band which is currently unavailable for public usage. The most interesting thing about this standard is actually the 60Ghz band usage which actually allows transfers of really high amount of data over short distances and will enable to eliminate the need for cables between peripherals such as Monitor, Keyboard, mouse, printer & Computer.

Summary

What i find interesting with this is the possibilities for new product ranges and innovation. I can see products like office desks with integrated wireless charging and/or integrated mouse-plates into office desks with charging. This also would eliminate the need for docking stations for Laptops as you would just set your latop on the desk and bam it is charging and automatically connected to the mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Innovation?

Please let me know what kind of innovations and products you see in the near future just by looking at these new technologies??

Windows 8 Ecosystem

Windows 8 Ecosystem

There has been a lot of discussions whether or not Microsoft will succeed with their new Ecosystem Windows 8 and Windows phone 8.

Alot of people seem upset about the new Windows UI (former Metro UI) and that it wont work on non touchscreen enabled devices such as Desktops and Laptops.

They all "got it on the backfoot" as we say in Sweden, and let me explain why:

Laptops:

Synaptics is building the touchpad/clickpad/mouspads to the majority of laptops in the world. This means that in Windows 8 you will have the same gesture friendly capability on a laptop as you have on a tablet with touch screen.
read about it here: http://www.synaptics.com/solutions/technology/touchpad

Desktops:

For one:

A Lot of HW vendors are today preparing for the windows 8 launch with producing new peripherals for this new ecosystem. One of them is Logictech which have produced a new series of Touchpads & mousepads for desktops which will enable desktop owners to use the gestures even when on a desktop without having to buy a touchscreen.

Second of all:

There is already a reg-edit hack presented on several sites including Youtube which actually enables the old startsbutton and together with the one click to get the the old UI it will basically give old Windows based applications chance to adopt.
look at this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CAuvlmPbJE

Third and last:

Some manufactures has already included an option to get the start button back as a software.

Conclusion

I really think that if Microsoft can get the message out there to the public then Windows 8 will prevail. I really think that the new Windows family is the best product line Microsoft has produced so far and they are doing the right thing by sticking their nose out really long and taking a risk by innovation.
